British distributor Vertigo Releasing has obtained David Bowie origin film “Stardust,” starring Johnny Flynn (“Emma,” “Beast”), who not too long ago received the ideal actor award at London’s Raindance Film Pageant for his general performance as Bowie.
Vertigo will release the movie ahead of the close of the year, on the again of the U.S. launch by IFC Films on Nov. 25. Ed Caffrey, head of acquisitions and organization development at Vertigo, lauded the “compelling performance from the quite talented Johnny Flynn.”
As effectively as the strength of Flynn’s efficiency, the distributor will make on Bowie’s enduring recognition in the U.K., and optimistic community evaluations, these as a 4-star create-up in The Occasions newspaper, which named “Stardust” “a remarkably self-confident, clever and resilient film with the sense of soul that its fascinating issue justifies.”
The film is a “cusp-of-fame-of-a-rock-star biopic,” in the words of Variety‘s reviewer, which dramatizes Bowie’s street vacation across The us in 1971, when the musician is “several several years into his occupation but still, in terms of image, a bit of a leftover hippie rocker.” It addresses the period of time when “Ziggy Stardust — the persona, the manner, the new music — was still germinating in his head.”
“Stardust” was directed by Gabriel Assortment, penned by Christopher Bell and Range, and generated by Paul Van Carter, Nick Taussig and Matt Code. Executive producers are Fabien Westerhoff, Christopher Figg and Robert Whitehouse.
The movie was made by U.K.-dependent Salon Photos, which developed the double BAFTA-nominated “McQueen,” and is a co-generation with Wildling Pics in Canada. Movie Constellation financed the film along with Piccadilly Images.
Movie Constellation is managing world legal rights on the movie, which was presold to a number of territories. It screened at Tribeca and Rome film festivals, among other situations.
